Gibbs Launches 6 Oranges

The fever is on again. The 2007 Cricket World Cup has begun and this time around the location is the West Indies. For those of you living in Dubya's empire, cricket is to baseball as caviar is to chicken liver ... ;0)

As I write this post the South African team is playing the Netherlands in St. Kitts' Warner Park. Ummm yeah the Netherlands, dressed in orange, have a national cricket team. I wonder if my boy Menno (from Holland) knows, or even cares. Menno I hope you don't mind me saying that the boys in orange really suck. I mean really suck!


And it does not help that their captain, Luuk van Troost, boasted on the BBC that the South Africans could be beaten by his minows. He said that the Dutch would make history against the South Africans. Ironically, Troost was right, but not right like he had predicted. His team's loss to South Africa is the third worst in World Cup history.





















Now smoking reefer in Amsterdam aside. This post is a kind of respeK shout-out to my cullard brother of dubious white-ass-kissing politics, Herschelle Gibbs. You see just minutes ago he made cricket history when he became the first cricketer in ODIs (one day internationals) to hit six sixes in one over. Ummm no, it does not matter that it was against the sucky oranges. In fact, it is a kind of colonial justice that a cullard brother just beat the sh*t out of oranges from the land of the Dutch East India Company. And he did so six times in a row ... ain't that look on the Dutch wicket-keeper's grill just precious?


Gibbs is only the third cricketer to score six sixers in an over. The other two elite cricketers are Sir Garfield Sobers (pictured) of Barbados in 1968, and India's Ravi Shastri in 1985.



Sobers and Shastri (India's Lost Captain), however, scored their six sixers in first class cricket and not in an international match. Shastri is pictured batting here.


Nevertheless, this post is about Gibbs. He achieved the unthinkable. Six sixes with six balls. It is impossible to score more than he scored in an over (36). Is my math right bra Cliff?


I takes my hat off to Gibbs. He is no doubt a talented cullard brother that even my cricket-hating boy Derek (pictured) will be proud of, at least for a day or two. Maybe even a day longer when he finds out that Gibbs won $1million with his feat. Well, Johnny Walker will give the $1million on behalf of Gibbs to Habitat for Humanity. But still hey. And all I ever did was to buy two used copies of the "We are the World" record in the 80s.

Ok, so South Africa really won big. The match just ended (and it is past midnight in South Africa) and the results are great for South Africa and not so great for .... ahhhh f**k 'em.

The score: South Africa won by 221 runs. Their biggest margin in ODIs, ever! Mark Boucher racked up the quickest 50 runs in World Cup history. And, South Africa hit 18 sixes in all, the most in ODI history. What a day/night for our almost-white team huh?


As for the fallen oranges, maybe we should introduce them to lawn bowling. Bet they suck at that too. ;0)


We should probably spare a humane thought for the orange bowler, Daan van Bunge, who suffered the Gibbs feat. Can you imagine living with that humiliating distinction for the rest of your life? Won't be easy for ol Daan who was born yesterday (1982). Daan, seen batting here, was caught leg before wicket by South Africa's Andrew Hall.

It also won't be easy for the oranges' big-mouth Captain Troost. Hell, it won't be easy for the rest of the minnow oranges, ever! Anyway, thanks to News24 and Cricinfo for the pictures and stats hey.
