Canada Won't Attend Racism Conference

Canada announced today that it won't attend the United Nations' 2009 conference on racism in Durban (South Africa).

The Canadians say the conference will "degenerate into ... expressions of intolerance and anti-Semitism."

Canada also objects to Libya being the president of the conference's organising committee, and to the presence of Iran on the same committee.

Huh?

Is Canada in any position to dictate what a conference on racism should look like?

Their shameful record of Indian genocide hardly make them a credible judge of who and what should be included and excluded at a racism conference.

Canada's Secretary of State for Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity, Jason Kenney, indicated that his country may be the first to avoid the 2009 Durban Review Conference.

I expect that the US will follow Canada in the near future.

Both Canada and the US have a vested interest in avoiding any limelight being shed on their role in racism inside of their respective countries, and also in the international arena.

Canada and the US are happy being ardent supporters of the kind of racism that Israel perpetrates in Palestine.

So why should anyone be surprised that Canada would coward and run from facing its global peers?

I'm not surprised hey. Good riddance is my thinking.

Onward!

It's small wonder that the Arab peoples of the world have a smoldering resentment toward the US (and Canada).

The worst of it is that I believe if the American and Canadian people were to hear and see the truth about the Israeli occupation, they would demand change.

Every Israeli outrage, from the aggressive and illegal West Bank settlements, to the indiscriminate "retaliatory" bombings that they inflict on poverty-stricken Palestinians, sullies our people. Indeed, our species.

Man's inhumanity to man, and all that...

There are no conclusions to be drawn beyond this: nobility and decency are the ideals of youth. The pratical world pretends to admire them, but, in fact, despises them.

Sigh.

Thanks brother Dade. You put this ongoing tragedy in perspective.

What bothers me too is the manner that Hillary and Obama excuse the Israeli government for its policies in Palestine.

Both take money from powerful Jewish lobbies in the US that have enough influence to pocket them both.

Obama can hardly disengage his support for Israel in terms that see their policies as racist and inhumane.

He is bought and paid for, like Hillary, in these terms.

Onward!
