When Pigs Fly!

The World Health Organization (WHO) says that “swine flu” or the now preferred N1H1 virus is a pandemic of the "phase 5" kind.

So what exactly does that mean? Is the N1H1 virus, said to be a new form of influenza just diagnosed last month, a real or constructed pandemic.

To be clear, the WHO raised the N1H1 virus to a "phase five" status because it wants to motion that a pandemic is "imminent".

Ummmm ... so the media frenzy that wants you and I to believe that this is a pandemic is mostly speculative sh*t.

But let's not let the WHO off the hook too easily. All this talk about a pandemic, or "imminent" pandemic, is scaremongering of the worst kind.

As I understand it, the WHO can only confirm that 44 people have died as a result of the N1H1 virus in the whole world! They can also only confirm that 715 people have been infected with the virus.

So what the hell are we to make of all the wanking?

The same WHO tells us, as pointed out by Lucinda Marshall, that:
1 million people die from malaria each year

2 million from AIDS

2 million from air pollution

7.4 million from cancer

17.5 million from cardiovascular disease

1.6 million from tuberculosis
So, how again is 44 dead and 715 infected a pandemic, "imminent" or not?

My bullsh*t meter is detecting a need for knee-high boots. And I say this with due respect to those who have lost their lives and those who are suffering from the N1H1 virus.

As it stands now, there is very little evidence to suggest that this strain of the flu virus, despite its newness, is any worse than any other viral flu outbreaks in recent decades.

Plainly put, the N1H1 virus should be considered a pandemic, "imminent" or not, when ummmmm ... pigs fly!

Onward!
