Nairobi - An 84-year-old farmer is among the candidates that began sitting this year's Certificate of Primary Education exams in Kenya on Tuesday.
Father-of-eight Allan Njoroge Muira returned to school last year after being forced to abandon his education during British colonial rule 60 years ago.
Muira attended a mission school from 1944 until 1950 when he was arrested under emergency rule.
He told KBC television that he would like to continue his education and possibly study law.
Muira said he had been subjected to injustices during his life and that his land had been taken from him and divided up without his knowledge.
"I want to get educated so that I can repossess my land," he said. (SAPA)
Comment: What an inspiring story. A lot of folks half his age have given up on life already.

I believe that there was a film made on this that was recently screened at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. Think its called The First Grader. I'm looking out for it - reviews say its brilliant!
