Larger than life Bono, lead singer of Irish band U2, performs at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday evening. Close to 100 000 fans flocked to the concert. Bono told the crowd that "the rest of the world isfinally catching up to the fact that this place [South Africa]feels like the future". Read more (Jerome Delay, AP) |
Whatever.
Bono is the mainstream and a jackass who for a few delusional moments maneuvered himself into the 'saviour' of the African continent. And he did so joining hands with the establishment.
What came of all that saviour sh*t he was selling?
So now he thinks South Africa "feels like the future"! I guess folks who live in the west and buy his pseudo-radical posturing better beef up their alarm systems and put burglar bars on just about everything.
Guru Mooi sent me a message just moments before the concert started last night talking about the "Irish being the blacks of Europe" and the "sound being amazing".
Whatever.
I'm not talking to him until the real second coming ... maybe even beyond. :)
Onward!

But, Ridwan, don't you think Bono's heart is in the right place.
Hi there Dade. Thanks for your comment brother.
Bono is a neo-liberal salesperson. Every few years someone like him comes along to interpret Africa for the west.
It is that 'white man's burden' nonsense over and over again.
Peace Dade,
Ridwan
I get where you're coming from. The fact that we need to be substantiated by the west is rubbish. But the sad reality is, that it works.

Thank you for your comment. It is a sad reality, you are right.
Peace to you,
Ridwan
Add george clooney to the list of bleeding hearts! Oh Ben Aflec has jumped on the do gooder band wagon too! So celebs need to be saviors to get their ratings up.
Thank you for your comment Anonymous.
Clooney is also a spokesman for Nescafe despite its dubious record on the continent.
Where is the principle in that?
Afleck is just dense, too dense to know what Darfur really represents.
Peace,
Ridwan
This post cracks me up, brotha. I like U2, but I don't buy Bono's messiah complex.
