In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim.
James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including "White Power!" according to witnesses.

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says a group of the teens then climbed into their large Ford F250 green pickup truck, floored the gas, and drove the truck right over Anderson, killing him instantly.
Mississippi officials say it was a racially motivated murder. What the gang of teens did not know was that a surveillance camera was focused on the parking lot that night, and many of the events, including the actual murder of Anderson, were captured live on videotape.
CNN has exclusively obtained that surveillance tape. The group of teens that night was led by 18-year-old Deryl Dedmon, Jr., of Brandon, Mississippi, according to police and officials.

Why would teenage white boys carry out a modern day lynching? What kind of props does whiteness confer on racist thugs like these when they brutalize black folk?
What is the value of black life inside of whiteness in 2011? What happened to Obama's post-racial America?
Last year in South Carolina a black man, Anthony Hill, was shot to death by his 19 year old co-worker who then dragged his body behind his truck for 11 miles.
What is it with white men killing black men and then dragging them behind pickup-trucks or running them over with a pickup? And what the hell is it with white boys and going out to "f*ck with some niggers"?
Do you remember the 1988 James Byrd Jr. case in Texas? And what about Mulugeta Seraw in Portland (Oregon) in the same year?
This kind of inhumane behavior is more than just an isolated dysfunction.
May James Craig Anderson, Anthony Hill, James Byrd Jr. and Mulugeta Seraw rest in peace.

I wonder how much of that happens in SA without it making it to the news.....especially on the farms.

There are many cases of this kind of abuse in SA.
I remember a case in Sasolburg where a white man killed his black gardener and then dragged his body behind a pickup for hours.
And this happened after 1994.
The clip is telling.

This is sad and so inhumane, but in all honesty, I'm not surprised.
You ask why would a group of white boys carry out a modern day lynching? Because they can and they did. Fuck Obama's post-racial America. There is no such thing. Post-racial because he's the poster boy for all things "Uncle Tom?"
Because he wants to appease and not upset his white counterparts?
There is no excuse for such an injustice but it's real and if we don't acknowledge it for what it is then clearly turning a blind eye is something we've become immune to...unfortunately.
Obama being in office hasn't done anything in terms of race relations. Racism and hate are taught traits and sadly this is a clear example of what happens when children are taught to react to their hate.
I hope and pray that they suffer the ramifications of what they've done.
But I digress........
I wonder how many incidents like this happens daily but never brought to light.

Thank you for your comment. I agree with you on the teaching of racism.
In whiteness racism is never absent. It is no less than a family value.
Something to brag about even.
I think that some white folk will find it hard to swallow some of what you and the Angrindian are saying.
I believe that there is only one humanity, one people. So the notion that racism of this kind is a white problem is not a statement about the biology of whiteness.
There is no biology to being white or any other race.
Race is a fiction.
We are all socio-historical and political constructs. Add religion and culture too.
Whiteness in these terms is a constructed condition that must be deconstructed and abandoned, it cannot be reformed/revised.
It does not matter what Obama appears to be - racism has not gone away, anywhere.
And the problem of white excess is front and central.
This is what I see when I ask how it is still possible for kids that were born yesterday to kill a brother for no other reason than being a black man.
What did Mr. Anderson do to be run down so brutally?
What about his humanity? His family?
Is a black life taken no more than a notch in the belt of whiteness.
In that truck were at least two young women. He was showing off for them too. Why could they not stop him?
Male or female in whiteness is of little relevance to black/brown folk who have to live with the racism that is the core of being white.
Angryindian is right to say, just like Biko did, that racism is a white problem and every white person needs to stand up and disown their whiteness.
Where are the white traitors? Please stand up for humanity.
