War Crimes Tribunal in Malaysia Tries Bush, Blair

PressTV
November 19, 2011.

A War Crimes Tribunal in the Malaysian capital has begun its hearing against George W. Bush and Tony Blair, charging the former officials for the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan.

The tribunal will determine whether the former US president and British prime minister committed war crimes and violated international law during the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, Mathaba News Agency reported.

The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal is an initiative by Malaysia's former Premier Mahathir Mohamad, who staunchly opposes US-led military adventures in various troubled regions.

The hearing comes after two years of in-depth investigation, including testimonials from Iraqi war victims by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission.

A notification of the trial was served to known addresses of the two, and to the US Embassy and the UK High Commission in Kuala Lumpur on September 19, 2011.

This comes at a time when the Perdana Global Peace Foundation has mounted a war crimes exhibition in the Malaysian capital.

The exhibition put on display gory images of decapitated bodies, to educate the public about the inhumane effects of war.

The exhibition also featured the infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq along with life-sized mannequins to show the abuse and torture of prisoners by the US army.

Millions of people have lost their lives in the US-led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan over the past years.

Comment: Bet you wondering why you have not read much about this story in the mainstream corporate press, huh?

This tribunal is something like the Vietnam war crimes panel by philosophers Bertrand Russell and Jean-Paul Satre in Sweden and Denmark in 1967.

If Bush and Blair are found guilt their names will be entered into a “Register of War Criminals”.

The hearings are set to continue for four days.

Next year the same tribunal will hold another hearing that deals with charges for war crimes in Iraq against ex-Vice President Dick Cheney, former Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld and ex-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, among others.

It may be symbolic and nothing 'real' may come from these hearings but at the very least there are folks out there who recognize the genocidal murder that Bush and Blair and company launched on Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama and Sarkozy should be next.

Onward!

There is a very noticeable omission to your list of who should be next.

I wonder why

You not speaking of Gaddafi's son, ne alleman?

Was he guilty of invading Iraq and Afghanistan too?

Dunno. :0)

But you probably mean Daddy Bush, Bill Clinton, Killary, Condi Rice, Gordon Brown, ...

Am I close?

Peace,
Ridwan

Alleman my Afrikaans is not worth much and I struggle to read and understand but I have just read your post on your aunt (tannie).

I am so sorry to read about her ordeal.

I trust that she is recuperating and healing.

We live in a crazy country and it baffles me most days why we are so violent.

It is not right and we deserve more.

Your aunt deserves more.

Thank you for your sympathetic comment Ridwan, and for not being too important to read my Afrikaans blog.

You have eased my disquiet a great deal - at least for tonight.

alleman from what I have seen on your blog over the last few years there is a lot of substance and important conversations too.

Keep writing and pressing on.

I promise to keep trying to read and write more in Afrikaans (well the latter sadly is nonexistent but needs serious redress).

Here in Kimberley most folks speak Afrikaans so I am making some good headway but not nearly enough.

Oh I should confess that I asked my moms to help me read your post.

We were both saddened (and angry) to read of her ordeal.

I truly hope she and your loved ones are doing better now.

Peace,
Ridwan
