"Now Its All Best Said and Done"

In the late 80s early 90s and beyond I watched a lot of sitcoms, mostly American except for the short-run British sitcom One Foot in the Grave which incidentally has a great theme song.

No matter what may have been going on in my life at the time, I would never miss any re-runs of Sanford and Son, What's Happening!!, Martin, Cheers, or The Drew Carey Show.

My obsession with Sanford and Son was known to all around me.  In fact, when Redd Foxx passed away in late 1991 a good friend sent me a heartfelt message saying he was sorry for my loss.

I accepted his condolences.  Go figure.

My attraction to sitcoms has not changed.  Currently I am fixated on watching daily re-runs of The King of Queens, Mike and Molly and the seriously underrated Becker.

The other day a friend of mine said he stopped by the house to surprise me but I was out.  Moms told him to come back at 7pm sharp because I won't miss an episode of "Douglas".

"Who is Douglas?" he asked.

So all of this goes to say that there are a whole grip of other sitcoms that have faded from view but still play out in my roller-coaster head from time to time.

These shows are not necessarily popular like the ones above but nonetheless are memorable if only to a select few "dummies" who pass(ed) enormous amounts of time living in sitcom land.

Does anyone remember The John Larroquette Show that ran on NBC in the early to mid 90s?

No.  Geez.

Perhaps you may remember Night Court?  Sure you do.  Remember Richard Moll as Nostradamus "Bull" Shannon the court bailiff?

The Guru kinda reminds me of Bull for more than one reason, chrome dome included :0)

Well anyway, this aimless post is just to say that over the past couple of weeks the theme song from another forgotten sitcom has been playing in my head for no apparent reason.

And no I am not talking about The Andy Griffith Show show even though I was saddened to read that Andy Griffith had passed on July 3.

Mayberry will never be the same again.

AnyHowze, the theme song I am thinking about is named after a sitcom starring Judd Hirsch (of Taxi fame) called Dear John.  The US version of Dear John was based on a British sitcom of the same name but I never did get to see any of those episodes.

It goes a little like this:

"Dear John. By the time you read these lines I'll be gone."

Cold b*tch huh?

No wonder I liked Judd Hirsch's character, John Lacey.

And now you know I am running a temperature that is playing havoc with my sanity.  Two weeks and counting too.

You probably are not interested in knowing that the title to this post is another line from the Dear John theme song.

Onward!

Ps. Oh did I tell you I am a big Barney Miller fan too?  And the opening theme song despite being an instrumental is one of my all-time favorites ...

What about Good Times or The Jeffersons ... wait wait you gotta luv All in the Family, right?

Geez you'd think folks would care ;0)
