Pigs Food, Change, and Oprah's President-Elect

President-Elect Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, has moved swiftly to contain the damage stemming from comments his father made about Arabs, Israel, and the Obama White House.

Rahm's father, Benjamin Emanuel, is reported to have said the following about his son's role in the Obama White House:

"Obviously, he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn't he? ... What is he, an Arab? He's not going to clean the floors of the White House."
Nice ... what a f*cking racist and classist asshole.

Rahm is distancing himself from his father's statment saying that this is not the kind of value he was raised on.

I guess his Irgun terrorist father had nothing to do with raising his pro-Zionist ass.

Whatever!

Who is he trying to fool? And why has Obama not moved to distance himself and his forthcoming administration from Emanuel's father?

You can read the rest of the story as reported in Al Jazeera here.

There is a saying in Afrikaans that comes to mind when I think about Oprah's president and his "change" White House.

The saying translates roughly as, "Mix with the pigs' food and the pigs will eat you up".

If you believe the hype it may be reasonable to expect that Obama should know better.

But he does not and it is becoming clearer as we move forward.

Just look at the 20 Hawks, Clintonites, and Neocons, that Obama is leaning on and dragging back to the White House.

So much for the hype ...!

Onward!

Well, I have to agree with you that Obama has yet to pick a single cabinet member that I like.

My expectations are not high. My only real hope is that an Obama administration will hold Bush and cronies accountable for their crimes.

If he does that much, I'll judge him a success.

Hi Dade:

I agree that holding Bush and company accountable is important.

My question though is whether Obama is so inclined.

Are there any examples in US history where a sitting president has sought to indict a former president for a crime(s)?

Trust you are well brother.

Peace,
ridwan

This is funny in the most dark way.
Wasn't it only yesterday that we saw attempts from Sonal Shah's supporters to distance her from the activities of her parents(her father specifically).
The sins of the father eh? ;)

Hi Prasanth:

Thanks for your comment. The coincidence is weird hey.

Thing is that neither story is really being highlighted in the US.

Be well brother,
